The team now comprises seven executives, all leaders in their fields:
General Sir Mike Jackson, GCB, CBE, DSO, DL (Non-Executive Chairman)
Sir Mike joined the Army in 1963 as an officer in the Intelligence Corps. In 1970, he transferred to the Parachute Regiment, eventually commanding the Regiment’s 1st Battalion. Throughout his army career, Sir Mike has commanded at all levels and served in the NATO Chain of Command as Theatre Commander, working to the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe, during the Kosovo Crisis. He was appointed Chief of the General Staff, professional head of the army in 2003 and retired from the Army in December 2006.
David Montgomery (Aerospace & Defence, and Security; Law)
David took early retirement from the British Army in 2000, after a distinguished career that culminated in his command of the 7th Armoured Brigade (“The Desert Rats”). He became Chief Operating Officer of Hanover Matrix International, before co-founding Benchmark in 2002. He has an enviable reputation in the defence, security, aerospace and public sectors, and also leads Benchmark’s law division.
Bob Caton (Transport and Infrastructure Services)
Bob has extensive knowledge of the transport and infrastructure services sectors, and has conducted a broad range of successful searches across these industries. Before co-founding Benchmark, Bob was a Senior Account Manager with HSBC Rail and a Marketing Director for JGC
in The Netherlands and Japan. He has an MA from Oxford University and an MBA from Exeter University.
Jonathan Cockerton (Transport and Infrastructure Services)
Jonathan joined Benchmark Search in May 2006 to assist in the delivery of searches in the transport and infrastructure services sectors. Prior to joining Benchmark Jonathan worked for a leading public sector recruitment consultancy after graduating from Cardiff University with a degree in Accounting and Management.
David Mounde (Corporate Affairs, IR and Marketing)
This is the second successful executive search practice that David has set up in the corporate communications, IR and marketing fields, and he has carried out numerous successful searches for international clients. Before this, David had an active career in the army, having graduated from Sandhurst, serving in North America, the UK and Europe.
Debbie Potts (Corporate Affairs, IR and Marketing)
Debbie has worked in financial and corporate communications for nearly 20 years. She joined Benchmark in May 2005 from Smithfield Consultants, where she was a Director. Prior to that, she worked as an Executive Director in the International Division of Citigate Dewe Rogerson, where she provided strategic marketing and communications advice to some of Europe’s largest companies.
Michael Friend (Law)
Michael has been a solicitor for over 20 years. He currently consults for a well-known West End
legal practice and holds directorships of public and private companies. Michael was previously a partner of a City law firm and has worked in banking and other industries.
Benchmark Search Group was established in 2002 by Bob Caton, David Montgomery and David Mounde.
